Ask AtroBI
Ask AtroBI answers business questions using the report's approved metrics and fields. A metric is a number you measure, such as Sales. A field gives it a breakdown or filter, such as Region.
You need: AI access, a connected report, and metrics prepared for that report. Available questions depend on the report's data and configuration.
Ask your first question
- Open a report in Analytics.
- Open Ask AtroBI.
- Check the report context notice.
- Type a question using the report's metric names.
- Select the send button.
- Read the result and expand Metrics, filters and evidence.
If a term has more than one possible meaning, AtroBI may ask you to clarify. Choose the intended metric or rephrase with the exact business term.
Build a clearer question
A useful question names what to measure, when, and, where relevant, how to group or filter it.
The builder is a learning example. It does not send a question to your application, and the example fields may not exist in your report.
| Instead of… | Try… |
|---|---|
| “How are we doing?” | “What were total Sales from 1 September 2026 to 30 September 2026?” |
| “Show the best ones.” | “Show the top 5 Products by Sales for September 2026.” |
| “Why is it down?” | “Compare Sales for September 2026 with September 2025 by Region.” |
| “Show a graph.” | “Show Sales by Region for September 2026 as a bar chart.” |
Replace the example names with the approved names in your report. Use explicit dates when you need a repeatable comparison.
Continue or start over
Ask a follow-up in the same conversation when you want to refine the analysis. For example: “Now show that by Region.”
Use the Conversation history selector to reopen a conversation or choose New conversation when changing topics. You can also find conversations in AI History.
When continuing from an older result, ask again if you need fresh figures. Reading a saved conversation does not itself rerun the original query.
Understand what a question can do
| Request | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Total or breakdown | A result table and, when suitable, a chart |
| Period comparison | Current and previous periods, using the supported comparison |
| Diagnostic question | Supporting observations, if diagnostics are configured |
| Forecast | An estimate and assumptions, if a forecast recipe is configured |
| Report change | A proposed action with Apply / Undo, when supported |
| Unsupported request | A clarification or explanation of the limit |
Ask AtroBI does not treat instructions in your question as permission to access another workspace or restricted data.
If an answer is unavailable
Read the message before retrying. You may need to clarify a metric, change a date range, reconnect Microsoft, or ask an administrator to prepare metrics. Repeating the same question will not fix missing permissions.
